IQUPS Battery Backups Prevent Accidents at Critical Traffic Signals Increase the public safety and reduced traffic congestion by allowing traffic lights to function even during a power failure. A typical traffic signal intersection experiences eight to ten local power outages annually. With battery backup 3 power, some or all the traffic control signals can continue to operate. This seamless switchover to battery power increases public safety and eliminates the need to dispatch police or other service personnel to direct traffic. If all traffic signals were converted to LEDs, the battery backup system would allow full operation of the traffic signals during a power outage, thus alleviating traffic congestion.

The DLS series converter/charger quickly and
efficiently charges batteries from the full rated
output of the DLS. The DLS then maintains the
batteries, only putting into the battery what is
required by load or self discharge, cutting back to
milliamps as the battery requires.
Low and transient AC line voltage is a major cause of
converter/power supply failure. The DLS series
converter/power supply is protected against low line
voltage, as well as spikes coming from the AC power
source or from improperly adjusted generators.
The DLS series converter/power supply meets F.C.C.
criteria, minimizing radio and television equipment
interference, especially on the lower frequency bands.
The DLS series converter/power supply can be used with
or without a battery. When used as a converter/power
supply, the DLS model will only supply what is
required by the load. When not in use it is
essentially off, reducing electricity usage.
Even in its subcompact size, the DLS series
converter/power supply, at full load, has an operating
temperature half that of some switch mode electronic
models. This means substantially longer life and safer
operation.
Tight line-load regulation ensures that the output
voltage holds steady from no load to full load. This
keeps pumps, motors, and lights working at the correct
voltage even during brown out situations.
Proportional Fan Circuitry provides an extra measure
of protection. During times of heavy load demands, the
automatic circuitry will activate the fan before
thermal stress can occur on any internal components.
Reliability and durability is built into all DLS
models.
In the event the batteries or the DLS unit is wired
incorrectly, the DLS converter/power supply is
protected from damage. External fuses can be quickly
and easily replaced.

IOTA Engineering IQ Smart Controller
The IQ Smart Controller offers automatic charging control for the DLS power
converters/chargers to provide longer and safer use of your system's battery.
The IQ Controller is compatible with any DLS model, and is covered under
Two-Year Warranty. The IQ Controller allows the DLS charger to operate as an
automatic 3-stage "smart charger". This gives the benefit of Bulk, Absorption,
and Float stage charging, increasing the charging capacity of the DLS charger
and decreasing charge times, insuring proper and safe battery charging and
minimizing over-charging. This "smart" technology monitors the battery at all
times. If the DLS voltage remains in the long term float stage for more than 7
days, the IQwill automatically deliver a boost charge for a predetermined time,
then automatically return to the normal float stage. DLS power converters can be
ordered with the IQ Controller option internally integrated into the unit.
Bulk Charge
The batteries are charged from the full rated output
of the DLS charger. During this stage, the batteries
are recharged quickly to reduce charge times.
Absorption Charge
The batteries are then held in the absorption stage
for a controlled period, insuring a full and complete
charge. During this stage, the battery cells are
equalized to 14.2vdc (for 12V systems) for increased
capacity.
Float Charge
During the float stage, the DLS charge voltage is
reduced. This minimizes gassing, while maintaining a
full charge. If the battery voltage drops below
12.6vdc (for 12V systems), the IQ Controller will
restart at the bulk charge stage and repeat this
cycle.
Weekly Equalization
If the batteries have not received a "smart charge"
during a 7 day period, the IQ Controller will switch
the DLS charger into a pre-programmed, equalization
stage to top off the batteries. This ensures full
batteries all of the time without over-charging.
